Logging into my fucked-up world
An irritable, burned-out spaz. That's all I was reduced to by the end of the second week. It was Friday, and after coming thisclose to falling asleep while watching films for SocSci and English, I was rushing behind the driver from the dorm to the taxicab carrying several heavy bags and wearing a huge, green PE shirt, rubber shoes with untied shoelaces, a loooong PSHS skirt, and huge-ass headphones that made me look like Minnie Mouse. I could've sworn I heard a bunch of girls snickering behind me. "Very fashionable," one sneered. Shut up, bitch. I didn't have enough time to dress up like you (which is, in no uncertain terms, to dress like a sidewalk hooker).

I was on the road by 5pm, asleep with my head against the window, waking up on occasion to the beep of my cellphone. By the time I arrived at Cash and Carry where I would meet my parents, my transition from "rather messed-up" to "shitty beyond repair" was complete, made inherent by the fact that I'd just knocked over the open can of Coke Light that was on the restaurant table. I was too tired to even muster enough energy to yell an obscenity like I usually do (a good thing since my parents were there, but still).

Stumbling into the house with the several bags containing clothes and school items, I headed straight for my room, set up my laptop (Compaq Presario...my parents bought it for me last week so that I wouldn't hog the family PC anymore) and connected to the internet to start working on my Social Science paper (Special Assignment #1). Instead, I somehow end up chatting until 2am with Pau/"Pao" and Migs, saying things that made it painfully obvious that I was stoned ("Ang fish balls ba ay ang bayag ng isda?"). It was fun, though. Afterwards, I tried to work on the SocSci paper like I'd planned to...and ended up falling asleep with the laptop still on.

The day after (Saturday), I was determined to get started on that SocSci paper...but this time I'm up 'till 5am making Constantine and Bo wallpapers and this new blog layout (note: picture made uisng two separate photos of Bo and Constantine that I stuck together) using Microsoft Paint (we've been too lazy to get PaintShop Pro...but I find the new Microsoft fonts really cute). I tried to do my Geometry homework afterwards, downing a big glass of Diet Pepsi to help me stay awake, but unfortunately I still lost out to the sandman. (Managed to turn off the laptop and bedroom lights this time, though. Yay!)

To this very moment, I still haven't done my SocSci paper.

So there. Simply put, I'm a mess. I have the memory span of a goldfish, I failed two quizzes in Algebra, and I'm becoming more and more of a spaz with each day that passes by. Want proof? In addition to the aforementioned knocking over of Coke Light, I'd dropped my cellphone thrice that week---in class. Twice in Algebra, once in Values Education.

It's not all bad, though. The Batch Council members and yours truly are doing pretty okay, especially since I appointed Max to be my assistant (prolonged fancy-schmancy highfalutin title is Assistant to the President). He typed up the proposals, we all met up and talked it over, and we're currently wating for our batch adviser's approval. (Pau: I'm afraid I may have to veto the Valentine's dance, kasi majority of the batch probably wouldn't find it appealing. Baka concert na lang. Batch Intrams and Batch Christmas party will definitely push through, though.) I'm still with the school choir this year, and we're gonna perform at this national science event, the name of which I forgot---like I said, I have the memory span of a goldfish. Speaking of choir, I managed to get two people to join choir this year: Nikkei (well, it was her idea, I just had to talk to Ma'am Crisostomo to schedule an audition for her since she missed it), and Jiano, who expressed interest last year pa, but took a bit of prodding to overcome the initial sense of fear, 'cause the horde of (non)talent that showed up on Friday to audition scared him off a little bit. Funnily enough, I also wussed out during the auditions last year, but luckily for me, Ma'am Crisostomo told me (during Music class the next day) that I could just try out later on during Himig Agham practice. And aside from Ma'am Osit (zzzz...) and Ma'am Gumihid, I like my teachers (putting aside the fact that Sir Petri mistakenly called me "Janella"---aargh). Our adviser, Sir Segs (short for Amelito Segarra), is cool. We're his first advisory class and he seems real eager about handling Ilang-Ilang, unlike our first adviser (although I thought she was okay, the rest of the class couldn't stand her indifference towards us. Diba Opal?).

Sir Mardan rocks, too! I'm soooo happy knowing that I'm not the only one in Pisay who's a fan of the musical Rent. I'd stated in my index card for Geometry class that it was my favorite musical, so...

(Friday, after geometry class had just ended)

Sir Mardan: JC, you like Rent?
Me (surprised): Uh...yes, sir.
Sir Mardan: Do you have the CD?
Me (amused to finally talk to another Rent fan): Well, I wanted to buy it in Music One, but they were sold out.
Sir Mardan: You know all the songs?

Me (breaks into wide grin, is tempted to belt out "Another Day"): Most of them, sir.
Sir Mardan: "December 24th, Nine P.M., Eastern Standard Time..."
Me (laughs): Yeah sir, I love that one!

So as I left for the next class, I was singing Rent songs all the way. "Coast is clear/You're supposed to be working/That's for midnight/Where are they?/There isn't much tiiime..."

Speaking of Rent, Christopher Columbus is directing a movie version of the Broadway musical, and most members of the original cast will be starring in it! I'm uber-psyched! Mga tsong, gimik tayo...sama natin si Sir Mardan! ^___^

Leave it to Ma'am Anda to be the perfect buzzkill with her ridiculously inappropriate comments during Values Education.

Just imagine it. It's Values Education, where you're taught to be good and pure and virtuous. She turns to my classmate Bon, a Math genius and all-around nice boy, and she goes...

"Bon, do you have sexual powers?"

0__o

Turns out that "sexual powers" is a phrase she uses to refer to reproductive organs. Heh, may bago na akong panakot. "Try that again and I'll kick you in your sexual powers!"

Aaaanyway.

To summarize, I'm half-and-half about school. I do miss summer, and I get bored a lot in class, but it helps that I've got several pictures of Bo and Constantine taped to the inside of my Assignments notebook (last year it was Japoy Lizado, but unfortunately that notebook got thrown away bacuse I was too ill to get it from the dorm after school ended). I miss Arienne very much, and Ars, if you're reading this, sorry for being such a bitch last year. I should've been nicer to you, and I wasn't. I'm really sorry, and I miss you :'( I miss my other two roommates, Yela and Ste, and the quirkiness present in the atmosphere of my old dorm room, and I miss ordering McDonald's every Thursday with them. I miss my Opal friends Ian and Jape, and how I'd always review them before every exam and compare Math homeworks with them. I miss how Ian would whisper the answers to me during Math class if I was asked to recite and I was clueless about the answer, and how I, in turn, would do the same for him during English class. I miss butchering mainstream pop songs with him ("All my life, I've waited, this is TROOOOOO!!!!"). He's like a little brother to me: we've had our share of arguments, but we'll be there for each other when times get tough---nilalait niya lahat ng mga kaaway ko (hehe!), and I stand up for him kapag sha naman yung nilalait (the "Rudolph" incident is a clear example).

But I guess that's the point of having a different section this year. You can't always work with the people you want to work with. So, even though Ilang-ilang isn't exactly bonded yet, I'm determined to make this class the best one this year! And hopefully make some new friends along the way.

I'm off to a rough start, but I know optimism is key to having a great year. My summer started off real shitty, too, but it turned out to be an awesome one.

Gotta go now...I have a SocSci paper to work on, remember?
